Emanate
the word that popped in with a question
First of all, Cilla has come out of the tunnel of what I believe was a severe reaction to her vaccine a week ago. Her body does not seem to tolerate strong doses of anything other than love, play, food and treats. Thank you to those who have been in touch. I felt in the tunnel with her, as we do when our pets are in a place of being unwell.
It was rather moving to be at a service yesterday that was Blessing of the Animals. I want to think that all that was expressed somehow flowed through the air to her, giving her the energy to finally be herself again.
So, back to myself, too, breathing freely.
For several weeks I have been pondering the word “emanate.” Like so many words, it popped into my head one morning, seemingly out of nowhere.
I believe what is often spoken of as “nowhere” is actually “somewhere” that wants to send a message, that wants my/our attention, that has a way of calling me/us forth.
I also believe it was aiming for my heart even though it first landed in my head.
It showed up in the form of a question – “What do you want to emanate into the world?”
An unseen voice, as I’ll call it, that felt pointed, direct, bold. Perhaps too much so.
I felt like I was, without warning, being asked to dip deeply into one of what I call Wells of Being: Ordinary and Extraordinary Qualities of Conscious Living – a new well for me to explore – the Well of Emanate.
To emanate is to emit, to give out, a flowing out, usually intangible.
My first visual is light, flowing light, surrounding light with beautiful movement, enfolding me, enfolding the world.
Light that touches everyone and everything, light I imagine arriving in times of darkness, light that someone’s presence brings.
At first, I hear many qualities that show up like popcorn, highlighting the goodness this word conjures up for me.
I also know there is a shadow side that is undesirable but part of being a human being.
As I consider the question being asked of me, “What do you want to emanate into the world?”
I wonder how it is pertinent to the different spaces and places my life.
Is it always the same answer or are there different ways it might flow?
I have to break it down to consider those first, rather than “the world.”
What did I emanate as a child and is that something/s that still flows from me?
What do I still hope to emanate as a daughter, though my parents have been gone from this planet for many years?
What do I want to, intend to, hope to emanate as
A mother?
An elder?
A writer?
A catalyst for others to commit to completing legal documents before it is too late?
A writer?
A friend?
A stranger in everyday spaces and to other strangers in them?
A member of communities, online and in person?
A neighbor?
So, here I am playing with it, dancing with it, mind mapping with it, partnering with it, and dipping and dipping and dipping to see what I draw up from deep within the well that perhaps show me a new understanding or application of which I am not yet aware.
Surprise me, emanate!
I’m curious about one way the word speaks to you.

Dawn,
You emanate love, compassion, care, wisdom, sensitivity and curiosity.
Love your discussion of emanate. And so happy Cilla is doing so much better.
